Every time i see the title to this movie i read it as the double V itch lol.
Dafoe: WHAT? Pattinson: WHAT? Stone Cold Steve Austin: WHAT? Dafoe: WHAT.
My interpretation is Winslow/Howard is in purgatory to answer for murdering his foreman with an axe. He is being tested whether he should be allowed entry into heaven, or whether he shall go to hell instead. Wake is some sort of gatekeeper or powerful figure guarding heaven. Winslow fails every test and in the ending it is clear he is in eternal hell.
I'm not saying this lightly. There isn't one thing I would change about this movie. The Safdie Brothers ended this decade on a high. That beginning scene is so unfortunate lol I felt for him. Im sure he would pull an awesome joker with his ability to make faces of insanity. The ending shocked me something serious smh ♂🤦🏽. This was really good! I loved this movie and it scared the shit out of me. Give Willem Dafoe his Oscars already. Congratulations for your superb videos from Turkey. Boys locker room. How long have we been waiting for this movie? 5 weeks? 2 days? Help me to recollect. I can already see people re-uploading this on fb captioned Actual footage of me last night, de-colourised. This is one of the greatest horror movies ever. Its not like nowadays. Its history. Not exactly in a way, but generally the idea. Everyone: comparing wilem Defoe to the joker. Me: I know, it's beautiful isn't it... I dont know what was weirder, this or Midsommar. When Adam Sandler steps out of comedy, he really shines.
This film is well and truly a work of art and it ticks all the boxes as far as I'm concerned... The performances were top notch, the set designs were top notch, the sound design was top notch, cinematography superb, and on and on and on... The attention to detail in this film is phenomenal. Sure, it's not for everyone but I absolutely loved it... I'm definitely looking forward to seeing what Robert Eggers does next. To be Honest, Mermaids are naturally scary. First bit is like the spreading ashes scene from big Lebowski.

I appreciated the Non-Hollywood, ending. Yikes, the entire movie was a thrill. To all the people saying this doesn't look scary, go watch something like the gallows or the poltergeist remake you know with jump scares. The rest of us will stick to real horror. Dafoe good as usual. Otherwise a waste of time. weird aspect ratio adds nothing. God he seems like such a down to earth and humble guy, i thought it was impossible to like him more. Le phare sda church. Le phare pawleys island. Who the hell said robert Pattinson is a bad actor... Dafoe delivers his best performance so far and pattinson is not less. You will be captured immediately by the shivery ambience created with black-white setting, annoying noise, ocean waves, storms, remoteness, hostile gulls and the 2 weird men. It would not be irrevelant if dafoe is nominated for the academy awards.
It's sad that Robert Pattinson is known as the twilight guy because between this and Good Time he's shown that he's got chops. The fact that Pattinson is as underrated as he is is criminal. Incredible performances from both actors. Holy schiesse i must watch this. Le phare elementary. Willem Dafoe the great, ty. LET ME WATCH IT ALREADY. The best part is that the movie is weirder than this.
